BGP to install second Ferag line

BGP has invested in a Ferag rotative gathering and stitching system to boost its stitching capacity.

The install is the second Ferag machine installed in the last nine months, taking its spend with the company to around £6m.

It will be installed this November and follows a number of contract wins in recent months.

The company announced this week that it had won the contract to print Time Out magazine, while BGP chief executive David Holland said that the company would be announcing a number of other contract wins in the next couple of months.

He said: "We had become slightly unbalanced. We have won so many new weekly titles that we needed to up our stitching game.

"The first machine was installed in December last year but that can only handle A4. We plan to ditch some older kit but want to maintain our flexibility so the new machine will also be able to process tabloid and A5 sizes."

Both Ferag machines will be capable of handling run lengths of 35,000 titles per hour, matching the company's significant print power.

Holland added: "This sets us up now. There is more work coming that we know about, but of course there is more work coming that we don't know about and we will be able to handle that."
