Monotype launches web font service

Monotype Imaging Holdings has launched a web font service via its fonts.com website, which offers designers access to more than 7,500 fonts, including 2,200 free of charge.

The global font management company's new site webfonts.fonts.com offers a free subscription plan that will allow website owners with fewer than 25,000 page views per month to access more than 2,200 fonts for no fee.

In addition, two paid subscriptions are available, standard and professional, both of which provide access to 7,500 fonts, with monthly fees starting from $10 and $100 respectively.

Doug Shaw, president and chief executive of Monotype Imaging, said: "Fonts.com web fonts provides what we believe is the greatest level of selection, convenience and performance for anyone looking for a high-quality web font service.

"As font experts and home to the renowned Monotype®, Linotype® and ITC® collections, Monotype Imaging is firmly committed to providing the best solutions to meet every typeface publishing need."

Monotype's web fonts library is hosted on a global distribution network of servers and downloads fonts dynamically to Internet browsers. The service complies with W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) specifications for deploying server-based fonts and supports all major Internet browsers.
