Mimaki Sb300 and Sb53 inks achieve Oeko-Tex accreditation

Mimaki has attained the Oeko-Tex accreditation for direct skin contact for its Sb300 series dye-sublimation inks and Sb53 sublimation transfer inks.

The Oeko-Tex criterion provide textile and clothing industry manufacturers with a scientifically based benchmark for the evaluation of potentially harmful substances in textiles.

Around three weeks ago Mimaki was awarded Oeko-Tex Standard 100, product class II. This refers to textiles and inks which, when used as intended, have a large part of their surface directly in contact with the skin, such as underwear, bed linen, shirts and blouses.

The independent testing and certification system for textile products from all stages of manufacture confirms that the inks have met the human-ecological requirements of the standard for products with direct contact to skin.

“We were already well aware of the business-winning value of the inks but are delighted that Nissenken Quality Evaluation Center has awarded them the Oeko-Tex Standard 100,” said Mimaki Europe general marketing manager EMEA Mike Horsten.

“The major impact with having this certification is that if you use Oeko-Tex textiles, plus our machines, you are basically making stock that is a lot better for the environment and a lot better for your body.

“Our digital textile printing capabilities have already hit a number of catwalks and this certification means even more designers can take a closer look at how printing can add creative value to their collections.”

The inks can be used on a wide range of Mimaki systems including: TS500-1800, TX500-1800DS, TX500-1800B, CJV150-107, 130 & 160, CJV300-130 & 160, JV150-130 & 160, JV300-130 & 160, JV5-320DS, TS3-1600, TS5-1600AMF, TS34-1800A and TPC-1000.

“All the larger brands are determining that they want to be risk free, and they don't want any lawsuits, so having this certification gives them the guarantee that the product that they are making is going to be safe on that side,” said Horsten.

“We're quite proud to have achieved this because we can tell manufacturers that we've taken away one of their worries.

“It is an endorsement of our continuous efforts to optimise our portfolio and more notably our digital print solutions.”

Mimaki’s textile and dye-sublimation printers are distributed in the UK & Ireland by Hybrid Services and are available through its specialist textile reseller network.
