LG Davis expands offering with Iridesse install

LG Davis has enhanced its capabilities with a new Xerox Iridesse that came with metallic and clear capabilities, as well as inline bookletmaking.

The new machine was installed in mid-February and replaces one of the Birmingham firm’s two Versant 2100 digital printers as a “natural progression”.

With built-in bookletmaking capabilities and the fifth and sixth toner units introducing metallic and clear to the company’s offering, the Iridesse will serve LG Davis’ regular customer base of marketing agencies that tend to order booklets.

Sales and marketing director Marcus Bowen said: “We have been looking for the natural upgrade to our Versant and the progression to metallic and clear inks made the Iridesse an obvious choice.

“Our supplier, Zerographic, are exemplary in their service and always put us in a good position to offer our services to our clients, so we were happy to once again make the most of our longstanding relationship and take some Xerox kit from them.

“When turning to our clients, we can now offer a fuller range of substrates and the new colours give us niche marketplaces to enter, meaning our offering is not just appealing on price but is genuinely offering something that many others cannot produce.”

Launched for Europe and the US in May, the six-colour Iridesse boasts newly developed technology for colour management and a range of automation. Taking a maximum sheet size of 330x488mm, the Iridesse can print at speeds up to 120ppm for A4 and 60ppm for sizes A3-SRA3. It can take stock weighing anywhere between 52 and 400gsm and print at “ultra HD resolution” of 2,400dpi.

It makes use of Xerox’s High Definition Emulsion Aggregate (HD EA) toner designed to have the “optimal particle size” for lower gloss, smooth tints and fine detail.

Last month, LG Davis took on a new Horizon SPF-200A offline bookletmaker from Intelligent Finishing Systems, which Bowen said is “already paying off dividends”. The firm is generally a Xerox house, also running a Versant 2114 and a Nuvera 144, with finishing kit including Stahlfolders, guillotining, drilling, stitching and a Pratika 56 MPE shrink-wrapper.

According to Bowen, the next capex focus for £3.6m-turnover LG Davis was likely to be in the wide-format arena.
