LG Davis has acquired local business Positive Print to grow its commercial offering in the Midlands and further enhance its in-house services and capacity.

Both companies are based in the Birmingham area; LG Davis is in Kings Heath while Positive Print was based in Kings Norton but one of its two owners and its other two staff have now moved over to LG Davis’ circa-2,300sqm premises – one on a part-time freelance basis – following the completion of the deal on 1 July.

Positive Print had been run by husband and wife David and Alison Heath for the last eight years and Alison Heath will stay on and continue to work alongside LG Davis to support the transition going forward.

The Positive Print brand will not be retained, with the business eventually rebranding to LG Davis.

Alison Heath said: “We are absolutely delighted to now be part of LG Davis. It is a business we have known and admired for many years. We are excited about this new era and confident the move will be beneficial to not only existing Positive Print customers, but also enhancing LG Davis too.”

LG Davis, which has been based in Birmingham for nearly six decades, supports businesses across the UK with services ranging from print, design, and branded merchandise to personalised workwear, stationery, and office furniture.

The company has longstanding connections with NHS Trusts and public sector organisations due to its bespoke stock and distribution service, which allows multi-site companies to benefit from the savings of large print runs while storing excess stock to be shipped as and when required.

LG Davis managing director Liz Smith, the daughter of Ron O’Donnell, who founded the company in 1962 as a small print shop in Balsall Heath, said: “LG Davis is committed to delivering first class printing and office solutions across the Midlands and beyond.

“Our recent growth and series of acquisitions [including Birmingham-based office supply specialist Sabell & Co last year] has allowed the company to invest in extra machinery to increase capacity and enhance our in-house services.

“We are delighted that we have been able to work with Positive Print to merge our two businesses. I have known Dave and Alison personally for many years and our companies have always shared the same ethos – to put our customer first – so the acquisition is a great opportunity to enhance the offer here in the Midlands.”

She added: “Our aim is to be the Midlands printer of choice, offering everything you could need to market and run your business.

“We pride ourselves on going the extra mile and sourcing solutions to even the most complicated of issues.”

The acquisition brings LG Davis’ headcount to 44 and expands its plant list. Positive Print has brought over additional wide-format and finishing kit to the business, which already operated a fleet of B2 litho presses – from five-colour through to single-colour, three digital printers, two wide-format machines, and a raft of finishing equipment.

The company installed a Xerox Iridesse with metallic and clear capabilities as well as inline bookletmaking in early 2019.
