With the Doncaster operation set to relocate in September, the Heidelberg press will arrive on the new 5,580sqm base in August and is expected to be running ahead of the company’s relocation.

It was purchased for £1.6m after a deliberation period that ruled out B1 options from Komori. The CX 102-6 was chosen because Kingsbury already runs a pair of Speedmaster XL 75 presses and it sought to capitalise on its pre-existing relationship with Heidelberg.

Sales director Rob Layton said: “The CX 102-6 allows us to access new markets with our magazine work, adding new high-end, longer-run capabilities. We will now be chasing work in luxury markets for titles in sectors such as lifestyle and property.

“We were very happy with the services we already received from Heidelberg which is why we chose to stick with them for this investment.

“Now, we will be moving into the new factory as we have outgrown our current facility and have no space for growth. We will be looking to enhance our offering to our client base, as well as building a new client base, on the back of all of this investment.”

The Heidelberg CX 102-6 is a B1 press which runs at speeds up to 16,500sph. It will run for Kingsbury with Inpress Control and automated plate change, as well as being configured with a non-stop feeder and delivery to facilitate longer runs.

Kingsbury Press runs a portfolio of finishing kit alongside its presses in Doncaster that includes an MBO T960 B1 folder installed in February this year, three Polar guillotines and a Horizon Stitchliner. It also has sales offices in London and New York.

The company employs 40 members of staff on £6m turnover.
