Duplo UK managing director Peter Jolly said the new DC-646Pro slitter/cutter/creaser was the next generation of fully automated multi-finisher, offering up to eight slits, 25 cross-cuts and 20 creases in a single pass.
“I know it’s an overused phrase, but this is a game-changer. We’ve taken some of the things we learned from the 645 and 745 and absolutely blown apart the limitations of what you can finish, and made them virtually endless,” said Jolly.
The DC-646Pro sits between the DC-645i and the flagship DC-745. It has top speed of 30 sheets/min and can handle sheets from 370x999mm down to 210x210mm, with a minimum finished product size of 48x28mm. It has a stock range of 110-350gsm.
Features also include a barcode scanner for automatic set-ups.
According to Jolly, as standard the DC-646Pro comes with cutting on the X and Y axes and creasing on the short-edge, but with the addition of rotary creasing, slit-score, kiss-cutting and perforating, micro and standard, across and down the sheet.
“Basically if you had a flat sheet of paper you can now do anything across both the X and Y axes fully automatically from a barcode,” said Jolly.
“Because you can in essence lift and drop any of the finishing modules dynamically, you can pretty much choose where the finishing goes on either axis, which brings into play short-run prototyping of packaging, which is something you couldn’t do with its predecessors,” he added.
The new design enables users to in effect double up on their tooling, offering more finishing options including the ability to dynamically create non-continuous strikes or skip perfs numerous times in one pass, whereas on the DC-645i users can only run continuous cuts or perfs.
“This is definitely next-generation digital finishing. We’ve consulted with our customers to take it to the next level and it turns the hundreds of possible applications into thousands,” said Jolly.
The machine also comes with software that includes a ‘bag’ of 80 PDF templates of common applications that can be dropped into existing workflows.
The DC-646Pro is available for shipping immediately and prices start from £55,000-£70,000 depending on configuration.
