The new UK entity went live at the beginning of the month.
Price had been working as a strategic sales consultant to the German software developer since the beginning of the year.
He had previously sold Dalim technology during his time as business development director at Turning Point Technologies from 2001-2008.
“I’d always kept in touch with the Dalim team, and when they approached me at the end of last year about doing some consultancy work I updated myself and fell in love with the software all over again,” Price, pictured below, said.
His career also includes sales and technical roles at Linotype, Linotype-Hell, Scitex, Lüscher and Screen and he was a partner at agency Conversion UK.
Developer Tim D’Elia has also been recruited as technical lead for the new operation.
Price said that while Dalim was perhaps best known in the printing industry for its automated workflow software, it had other products that extended the firm’s reach, including enterprise system Dalim ES that goes “right the way up to brand owners”.
“It’s relevant for anyone who wants to track, manage and automate creative applications,” he explained.
He said Dalim also had “an exciting new product for print” in the shape of Dalim Drive.
Dalim Drive was developed after a US customer with high-speed inkjet presses and a raft of other digital printing kit needed a system that could handle 20 files a second.
“Dalim worked out that they would need 75 Twist servers in order to do that, so instead the team came up with a solution using ‘microservices’, which means Dalim Drive can be scaled across as many CPUs as you like.”
Price said that it could handle 50pp a second and could even be scaled up from that.
“The inkjet machines are so fast, this has solved the issues the customer was having with downtime on the press due to file problems.
“It corrects 99% of files, and quarantines those it can’t fix so the press keeps running,” he added.
There are a handful of customer worldwide so far using the new system, with Price hoping to add to that number in the UK.
“I think it will be a growing area as high-speed inkjet grows in use. I’m sure there are people in the UK who fit the profile for it,” he said.
The Dalim UK team will handle on-site integration where required, as well as customer support.
Price said that Dalim’s HQ team in Germany had also been bolstered with new recruits on the customer support side.
“As it’s software we are supporting everything can be done remotely from the UK or Germany, or from wherever for that matter!” he added.
Dalim’s SaaS hosted solutions are primarily cloud-based on Amazon Web Services.
“We may recruit more in 2021 as well. Covid is the big unknown in the equation but our solutions are geared towards users being able to work from anywhere without limitations,” Price stated.
“I spoke to one customer a couple of weeks ago who stated that without their Dalim system they would not have been able to carry on during lockdown. When you hear things like this it brings home the importance of having the right technology in your business.”
Dalim has around 40 existing customers in the UK.
