Coveris’ graphics division acquires Rivendell Europe

Imagenet, the graphics services division of packaging giant Coveris, has acquired graphics business Rivendell Europe for an undisclosed sum.

Imagenet works with major UK retailers and brand owners to support the design and delivery of packaging products, from concept to the shelf.

The acquisition of Rivendell, which employs 137 staff, was completed on 4 March. It is expected to support Imagenet’s continued growth plans in Europe and accelerate its entry into new and adjacent markets.

Rivendell provides photographic, digital and catalogue creation services and has studios in Leeds, Manchester and London. Its photographic expertise in quality photography and shoot management includes fast fashion, art direction, product pack-shots and brand imaging.

Additionally, the company’s digital content creation incorporates web pages, email campaigns and imagery from website design to development.

Rivendell also produces artwork and high-volume catalogue and promotional materials for many major multi-channel retailers.

Imagenet graphics services director Nigel Winteringham said: “The additional capabilities strengthen and extend the services offered by both Rivendell and Imagenet and enhance our complete solutions approach.

“With a range of high-profile clients, the acquisition of Rivendell supports our shared plans to meet increasing demand across all media, as well as offering more services to new clients.”

Imagenet said its vision is to become the global supplier of choice for brands and retailers requiring multi-channel content and graphics.

Rivendell managing director Jim McAulay said: “Imagenet’s acquisition of Rivendell provides a major growth opportunity for both our business and extended services for our clients.

“With the stability and backing of one of the world’s leading packaging companies, Rivendell customers will benefit from improved products, services and innovation and likewise the services we bring to Imagenet enable us to deliver one of the broadest and most unique graphics model within the European industry.”

Rivendell’s existing management, staff structure and headcount, brand name and identity will remain unchanged.

A Coveris spokesperson told PrintWeek: “Rivendell has been a strategic supply partner for a number of years. The business fit and complementary solutions offered by both businesses made perfect sense to explore a potential acquisition.

“[Coveris] is focused on continued growth in the UK and adjacent markets, and will continue to look for the right acquisitions to support further business growth to enhance our service and innovation offer.”

Rivendell’s turnover was £4.1m in its accounts for the year ended 30 September 2014. Coveris has global sales of $2.7bn (£1.9bn) and employs 10,500 staff worldwide. Its UK division accounts for more than £400m sales and employs over 2,400 staff.

Last year Coveris boosted its global footprint by acquiring New Zealand-based flexible packaging company Elldex Packaging Solutions.
