Rising prices

The editor of the i newspaper has blamed the rising cost of newsprint for an increase in cover price of the title’s weekend edition to £1 from this week.

Ink manufacturers have rolled out the latest round of price increases citing “unprecedented trends” in the access to raw materials, with warnings that more increases could be on the way.

Sun Chemical has increased the prices of all UV and electron beam (EB) inks in Europe by 4% to 6%.

Flint Group and Sun Chemical are both set to increase prices of various inks and coatings, effective from 1 March.

Flint Group and Sun Chemical have separately announced price rises for packaging inks and coatings, effective from 1 January 2018.

Flint Group has announced price increases of between 4% and 7% for all its packaging, narrow web and sheetfed inks and varnishes.

One of the biggest paper producers in Europe has announced an 8% price rise on its coated fine and coated mechanical paper reels, from 1 July.
