Vivid adds Color-Logic option for metallic effects

Vivid Laminating Technologies has partnered with Color-Logic to provide its users with a cost-effective way of producing high-value metallic effects.

The new partnership came about after representatives from the two companies met up at PrintWeekLive! in March, where Vivid was an exhibitor.

“We met Color-Logic chief technology officer Richard Ainge at PrintWeekLive! and this has all come together really quickly from that,” explained marketing manager David Smith.

Color-Logic’s specialist software allows the creation of sophisticated metallic effects using a suite of software tools that work with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

Director of sales and marketing Mark Geeves said the US-headquartered firm had developed a package of technology specifically for Vivid’s Matrix digital foiling and laminating systems, as part of the exclusive partnership deal.

“It’s a real value-add. We’ve put together a solution that lets Vivid’s customers provide more services, reduces their cost of inventories, and open up new applications,” he said. “The samples look great and it really is a win-win.”

Vivid product manager Lewis Evans said that by teaming digital print output with the Matrix, its Aqua Aura range of luxury foils, and the Color-Logic technology, it was possible to create 250 unique metallic foil colours “from a single roll of foil”.

The partnership involves two software options: the standard package of full Color-Logic design suite and FX viewer for one user; and a premium package which covers five users and includes access to Pattern-FX, a range of patterns that can be used to create an even greater range of special effects.

Evans said a complete system could be leased for a weekly cost of less than £100.

“We are able to offer both packages on either a three- or five-year lease,” he explained. “Combining the lease cost, printers can have access to our award-winning Matrix digital foiling system and Color-Logic’s incredible metallic print effects for around £70 per week.”

Smith added that the possible cost savings in using the system to create metallic sheets, rather than buying in expensive specialist stock, were “dramatic”.
