Mutoh debuts new hybrid at Fespa

Mutoh has publicly shown its ValueJet 1627MH hybrid inkjet printer in Europe for the first time at Fespa next month.

The five-colour 1.6m-wide machine, which was unveiled late last year and started shipping in early 2019, prints at speeds up to 12.1sqm/hr in CMYK with resolution up to 720dpi.

It comes fitted with a specialised hot air knife media drying system and with two rigid tables as standard and features media height measurement and semi-automated cleaning cycle capabilities.

The device can run either CMYK or CMYK plus white as standard and uses Mutoh’s own MP-31 resin-based inks that are dry immediately. The stretchable and shrinkable inks are designed for applications such as car wrapping and will preserve the “natural texture and look” of substrates.

“The system’s unique resin-based ink has the possibility, in the case of packaging for example, to print directly to cardboard,” said Mutoh commercial marketing manager Nick Decock.

“The ink has the intrinsic characteristics to keep the gloss or matt of the original substrate, which is unique for such a formulation of ink.”

Suitable for prototyping, fine art, rigid blanks, banners, signage, thermoforming and shrink applications, pricing for the ValueJet 1627MH starts at €25,000 (£21,500).

“The price point of the machine makes it interesting to be combined with either a thermoforming machine or for mock-ups of packaging, but it can obviously also be used for regular sign and display applications,” said Decock.

Mutoh will also show a raft of other kit on its stand, including the ValueJet 426UF and ValueJet 626UF direct-to-object LED-UV desktop printers, the ValueJet 1638UR roll-to-roll LED-UV printer and the PerformanceJet 2508UF true flatbed printer.

The ValueJet 1624X single-head and ValueJet 1638X dual-head printers, the ValueJet 1948WX digital dye-sublimation printer and the ValueJet 1938TX printer will also be demonstrated.

“Fespa attracts growing crowds of digital printers as well as screen printers who are looking for digital print equipment,” said Decock.

“Fespa draw the right public to their shows, so in that respect it’s nice to show new kit. But for us a show is mainly about showing a brand, showing new types of applications and inspiring people with applications.”

Mutoh will be exhibiting at stand B5-F29 at Fespa, which is taking place from 14-17 May at Messe Munich, Germany.
