Moonpig has agreed a new collaboration with Team GB for a range of personalised gifting products ahead of this summer’s Tokyo Olympics.

The move is Team GB’s first venture into the greetings category, and the deal was brokered by specialist brand licensing business The Point.1888.

Moonpig's in-house design team have used Team GB's creative assets to devise a range of products, including greetings cards, mugs, e-cards and T-shirts.

Team GB now has 31 licensing partners as part of a drive to expand the brand into new categories and retail channels, and generating income to reinvest into the team.

Olivia Wiggett, senior commercial executive at The Point.1888, said the business had used the 12 month delay to the Olympics caused by the Covid-19 pandemic as an opportunity to expand the licensing reach.

“We’ve been able to reach out to more potential licensees and really take extra care in immersing them in the brand to be sure the products developed and the marketing plans associated with them could reach their full potential,” she said.

“Moonpig was a no brainer for Team GB. They've done an amazing job on other sports properties and its wider licensing programmes. Their credibility and reach make them a perfect licensee.“

However, due to high demand Moonpig’s personalised T-shirt range is currently unavailable.

A spokesperson told Printweek: “The T-shirts will be live again in two-to-three weeks' time, including the Team GB designs too.”

Moonpig produces T-shirts in-house at its Guernsey production facility.
