Imacon has launched a new flagship scanner, the Flextight 848, and rewritten its software around a new image capture workflow.

"You wont find a more noise-free scanner," said joint managing director Christian Poulsen.

New electronics and optics increase speed and quality while productivity is improved with the ability to automatically scan up to 10 sets of transparency holders in a single pass. This allows it to batch scan up to 50 35mm transparencies.

Speed is five times faster than Imacons current products, enough to make 40 100MB scans an hour. It features 8,000dpi resolution, D-Max of 4.8D and a dynamic range of 4.0, thanks to dynamic cooling of the CCD. The price is 12,995.

Imacon has redesigned its scanner and digital camera software around the Flexible File Format (3f) digital workflow.

3f is a 16-bit RGB TIFF file that includes details about how the image was captured, which the software uses to apply colour and sharpening settings.

ColorFlex software has been relaunched as FlexColor to use the new format. It is available as a free upgrade. The software is also available for free to Imacon users customers.
