Helios offers free online soft proof guide

Helios Software has published a step-by-step online guide to producing soft proofs that are visually identical with hard copy proofs viewed in a light box.

The guide, which can be found here, summarises techniques used to earn three FograCerts for remote soft proofs and includes details on how to handle ambient light and other viewing factors.

The detailed description aims to help users properly configure their complete viewing environment and fine tune settings, to produce highly accurate and reliable soft proofs.

"Sophisticated hardware and high-quality software are essential for successful soft proofing. But the correct set-up of the viewing site and the proper use of all components are equally important for accurate soft proofs," said Helmut Tschemernjak, chief executive of Helios Software.

The guide includes techniques for handling: viewing room conditions; how to monitor ICC profile generation procedure and settings using Eizo and Quato proof monitors; fine tune monitor calibration; and using a test image to verify the visual match.
