Gavin Martin Colournet takes top prize at Antalis Review

Luxury printer Gavin Martin Colournet celebrated its first win at the Antalis Review 2017 awards last week.

In its 26th year, the design and print awards generated more than 500 entries and awarded prizes in 13 categories. The two overall winners were the Office of Optimism, which took Best in Design for White Review No 19 printed by Push Print, and Gavin Martin, which won Best in Print for the Embasy Gardens property books as well as Best in Litho Print.

One of the few printing companies still based in Hackney Wick, east London, Gavin Martin collaborated with developer Ballymore to create a brochure comprising photographs taken by residents on their Embassy Gardens estate in south west London.

“We have had a relationship with Antalis for many years and so it was an honour to receive this award,” said Gavin Martin managing director Mark Cameron. “Ballymore were wonderful collaborators who we were working with for the first time on this project.

“Because of that, and Ballymore’s very high profile, it was quite intense and we wanted to get everything right. We are used to working at the high end of the market but we really went out of our way to get this brochure spot-on.”

The 18-strong team at Gavin Martin used a five-colour Heidelberg XL105 to complete the job with a Pantone 109U yellow that was edge printed onto the entire product.

Shortlisted for Brochure Printer of the Year at the PrinkWeek Awards 2017, Gavin Martin is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018. It had previously been nominated for a creative print award at the Antalis Review 2015.

Other winners this year included Tilbury-based Ashwyk winning Best in Digital Print for Explore – the Watermark Collection 01. Boss Print worked on the new Drambuie campaign, which took the Luxury Packaging prize, and Pureprint’s work on Crossing Borders with the Winchester School of Art won the Recycled award.

“We have run these awards for more than a quarter of a century, and once again we have been amazed by the combination of creativity and use of technology, to create truly eye-catching design and print,” said Antalis UK regional managing director David Hunter.
