CMYUK moves to tailor-made Shrewsbury premises

CMYUK has opened a tailor-made showroom to anchor its place on the wide-format map and try to bump up its turnover by at least a fifth.

The distributor of EFI wide-format and Vutek printers and Fiery end-to-end software for display, sign and commercial print, spent £1.3m on buying and fitting out its purpose-built demo centre.

The new 372sqm showroom and demo facility in Shrewsbury has been tailor-made to accommodate EFI, Vutek and Mimaki wide-format printers and Zünd cutting systems.

Kit includes Mimaki JFX200 and CJV30 series as well as the EFI H1625 LED UV hybrid printers. Director Robin East said the latter cost £80,000 against the more usual £180,000 for similar kit.

“Sometimes within the print market you hear doom and gloom, but with digital wide-format it's buoyant,” he said. “I would like to think we will grow business by 20% in the next year.”

CMYUK, which currently turns over more than £10m, used to take Vutek clients to Brussels for kit demonstrations on a weekly basis.

“But from the way the market has developed and grown in size we knew we needed our own facility. Easy access to key parts of the UK made Shropshire’s second largest town the preferred option.

“To be part of this thriving business community means we can expand and increase our sales and support network throughout the UK.”

Mayor of Shrewsbury councillor Beverley Baker joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony on 25 February along with EFI vice-president for inkjet solutions marketing Ken Hanulec and managing director of EMEA Paul Cripps.
