Antalis to use i-Tone in Creative Papers for first time

Antalis has added new i-Tone technology to all of its Creative Papers.

The Creative Papers range includes Antalis' Curious Matter, Pop Set and Mohawk papers. They have been available for about two years for digital printers.

Speaking to PrintWeek at London’s Packaging Innovations 2016 trade show, Antalis digital business partner Jim Whittington said: "To make papers run on Indigo technology, you need a good treatment. There are various treatments in the market, previously we were using a digi-primer, but earlier this year we collaborated with Mohawk paper in the US and Mohawk uses an i-Tone treatment.

"The i-Tone treatment makes paper perform better on the press because the treatment is put into the paper when it is made as opposed to being coated on afterwards. So we started selling Mohawk Superfine, which has i-Tone, and part of the deal was that i-Tone would then be shared and applied to the whole Creative range," he explained.

The range will also be extended with Curious Matter becoming available in SRA3.

Antalis has spoken to a number of manufacturers about having the i-Tone treated papers rated for use.

It has spoken with HP, is in the process of trying to get the papers onto Xerox’s recommended media list and is also working with Ricoh, who’s Ricoh Pro C7100 series with white-toner would be a “match made in heaven for these Creative Papers”, according to Whittington.

“We are looking to get this into as many machines as possible,” he added.

“The beauty about digital is that you can have three sheets of SRA3 and you will know how it looks. It is not a case of litho where it takes thousands of sheets to get up to speed."

Antalis had a range of its Creative Papers on show at the trade show at London’s Olympia, although the i-Tone digital swatches were not yet available.

It supplied the paper for acclaimed war photographer Don McCullin’s photographic retrospective, published in May
