Star product: PIT BP

Madrid-based digital press manufacturer PIT has launched its patented digital printer, capable of printing an image on both sides of a sheet simultaneously. The BP, which made its show preview at this years Fespa exhibition, is designed to solve problems related to colour fading on back-lit posters by printing identical images onto both sides of the substrate. It can also be used to print different images onto each side of a banner as well as handling conventional one-sided printing to produce front-lit images.

Using piezoelectric drop-on-demand technology the machine works at speeds of up to 45sqm per hour while printing on both sides at once.

To achieve these results it uses 48 auto-cleaning Xaar 128-360 dpi print heads. These can be placed as close as 1.5mm to the substrate due to the machine’s arch-shaped media feed, which keeps the material taut. Printheads are maintained while printing due to automated cleaning and suction functions. The BP can print at resolutions of 320 or 720 dpi.

The unit is available in three sizes – 2.6m, 3.3m and 5.2m printing at rates of up to 22sqm, 32sqm and 45sqm per hour respectively – and is suitable for advertising material, PVC, banners and mesh.

Other features include a single roller belt-friction feeding system, an auxiliary orientation guide to assist the loading of material and powerful drying system.

The machine is equipped with automated front and back calibration, which can be adjusted before and
during printing.
