Archant veteran Webber retires after 48 years

Regional newspaper publisher Archant has said farewell to its longest-serving employee - East Anglian Daily Times and Evening Star page designer Brian Webber, who is retiring after nearly half a century at the group.

The 63-year-old joined Archant in 1961 as an apprentice, a post he held for six years. He went on to become a ‘stone hand', which Webber said was "what the people used to be called when all the pages were made manually".

He added: "I've had various jobs at the Star and Anglian, from when the papers were based in Carr Street to the current site.

"I'll miss the company, but I think out of everything I will miss the banter between the staff the most."

Archant employees honoured Webber's long-standing service to the company with a presentation.

Evening Star editor Nigel Pickover said: "Brynnie has been one of our company's great assets for almost half a century and we will miss him greatly."
