The new facility is being constructed at its Delaware, USA, Fujifilm Imaging Colorants (FFIC) operation and involves a spend of around $19m (£13.7m).
Fujifilm said that it aimed to meet growing demand for water-based pigment inkjet inks.
FFIC makes water-based inkjet inks, and the new production facility will make pigment dispersions using Fujifilm’s own RxD Reactive Dispersion know-how.
These pigment dispersions are currently made at Fujifilm’s site in Grangemouth, Scotland. The new US factory will increase its worldwide supply capacity.
Ian Wilkinson, president and chief operating officer of FFIC Inc, said the design and project management expertise of the firm’s UK team would be deployed for the US project, and would “ensure that we manufacture RxD dispersions to the same exceptional standard across both sites”.
“Expansion of our manufacturing capacity is part of a commitment to ensure we can meet increasing demand to support our global customer base,” he said.
FFIC is part of Fujifilm Ink Solutions. Its US site is one of the biggest aqueous inkjet manufacturing sites in the world.
Construction of the new site will start next month, with completion slated for next year.
