French paper firm moves into textiles

Guyenne is moving into the textiles market with the launch of a range of dye sublimation papers at Fespa.

The French coating specialist, known for its fluorescent papers, believes its new dye-sub tange has an advantage over other products because it comes in a 63gsm weight as well as 93gsm, the former being better value for volume printers, which are increasingly moving into "fast fashion". Roll length is 150m for 63gsm and 120m for 93gsm.

Product development manager Scott Walton said Guyenne was one of the first to launch fluorescent paper but this market has now declined for those products, whereas textiles is the biggest growth market at Fespa.

“More and more fashion is done with dye sublimation – it doesn’t fade, it doesn’t wash out, the colours are very vibrant and deeply saturated,” he said.

He said the company was in talks with OEMs such as Roland.
