Crown Van Gelder has added two new weights to its Letsgo High Performance inkjet paper range that are aimed at making mailings more affordable.

The new 140gsm and 180gsm papers have 7pt and 9pt calliper respectively, and were described as “stiff but lighter”.

“It will make the difference for many printers and their customers, to enable printed messaging to remain an important part of their marketing strategy,” the Netherlands-based manufacturer stated.

Perce Thrower, sales manager for the UK and Ireland, told Printweek: “The idea behind the new grammages is that they are lighter and give more square metres per tonne. 9 point calliper and stiffness was the benchmark for development. If you compare the new 180gsm versus, say, a 250gsm, yield savings can be seen.”

Crown Van Gelder said that inkjet was becoming a “mainstream method” in markets using print for functional communications and promotions.

“The need for personalisation, fast response and acceptable cost are the main drivers,” the manufacturer stated, and pointed to other potential inkjet advantages such as lower drying requirements and therefore energy savings.

Samples are available, and the new weights will be available in Europe and North America from January.

Crown Van Gelder produces around 180,000 tonnes of paper a year at its Velsen mill near Amsterdam.
