The flagship product, Sustaina Black, is set to launch imminently according to the Aylesford, Kent-based business.
Featuring Nature Coatings’ black pigment, which is made from wood waste, Chapelton claims it is the world’s first carbon-free black pigmented barrier-coated paper and board. It is suitable for direct food contact, with “excellent” grease and moisture resistance.
The Sustaina line-up also includes Sustaina Pack, a lightweight barrier board with half the usual coating weight. Sustaina Pack is PFAS-free and widely recyclable as paper waste.
Also; Sustaina Oven, a heat-resistant, aqueous dispersion-coated board that is recyclable in the paper waste stream and suitable for temperatures up to 220ºC; and Sustaina Cup, a recyclable alternative to PE-coated cups that is recyclable as a mono-material, repulpable and PFAS-free.
Completing the range are Sustaina Flute, a PE- and PET-free microfluted corrugated board with “excellent” barrier to grease and moisture and which is recyclable in the paper stream; and Sustaina Flex, a flexible, heat-sealable barrier product that is fully recyclable and repulpable.
Neil Skelton, managing director of Chapelton, said: “Sustaina represents a significant step forward in sustainable packaging. By combining Chapelton’s manufacturing expertise with eco-innovations, we’ve created a high-performance product range that aligns with our mission to reduce environmental impact without compromising quality.”
Now in its 40th year of business, Chapelton supplies a wide range of cartonboard, paper, and speciality products, stocking items from a raft of international manufacturers, including from Brazil, the Far East, and Europe. The company has dual FSC and PEFC certification.
