The Xeikon X-800 is a front end capable of handling data and graphic art workflows. A new IPDS controller enables the digital printer to be fully integrated into a transactional print environment.
The product was demonstrated on the Punch Graphix stand at this year's event.
Also on show was the full-colour digital Xeikon 5000 with the Xeikon Print Protector, which safeguards printed material from scuffing and scratching in mailing systems. It operates in-line with a new post-press system developed by Kern to slit, merge and perforate.
"Transactional printing in full colour is an emerging market," said Punch Graphix business development manager Danny Mertens.
"Cost differences between monochrome and colour production are narrowing, with the added value offered by colour growing in importance in the minds of marketers."
He added that producing transactional print in colour removed the cost of pre-printing, stocking and transporting the pre-printed sheets.
