Williams Press buys used with eye on new Fuji

Williams Press has opted for used kit with its second 10-colour Heidelberg to reduce costs in a tough magazine sector.

"Even longstanding customers want to drive costs lower and competition is regularly knocking on their doors," said managing director Alan Touchard.

The firm snapped up the Speedmaster 102 from Kent's DPM for 600,000 "peanuts in the world of print" because it couldn't justify the cost of new kit.

"The savings we made mean we can bring in a second new Fuji Luxel CTP system," said Touchard.

The part-exchange deal included replacing a four- and a five-colour Heidelberg; and this, with the CTP purchase, led to nine job losses at the firm in Maidenhead, Berks.
