Wheelden Print upgrades Komori press to improve output

Bradford-based commercial printer Wheelden Print has replaced its Komori Lithrone 28 with a five-colour Lithrone S29 in a bid to increase the quality of its output, speed up operations and boost productivity.

The Lithrone S29 has a maximum printing speed of 16,000sph, provides consistent print quality and features a high-speed pre-inking system.

According to Wheelden, which offers customers services ranging from typesetting and artwork to digital print, the new machine will cut the time it takes to print a 200pp job down to six minutes.

The company hopes its improved rate of productivity will enable it to attract new clients, which currently span the direct mail, marketing, legal and financial sectors.

Over the last few years the company has invested in a range of finishing equipment and installed the north of England's first Xerox digital press in 2001. Other kit at the Yorkshire site includes the DocuColor 5000.

Wheelden, which employs 15 staff and had a turnover of £1.2m last year, was formed in 1994 by the late Elliot Wheelden – a great uncle of the current directors.

The company is now run by managing director Peter Minchella and sales director Christian Minchella.
