VCG Group chief executive leaves company

VCG Group chief executive Mick Tooley has left the design and retail packaging specialist after 25 years of service.

Tooley, who left the company last week to spend more time with his family, was part of a management buyout (MBO) team that bought Wyndeham Press Group’s POS and packaging arm, Wyndeham Visual Communications, in 2007.

Its five divisions were rebranded under the title Visual Communications Group (VCG) and Tooley had served as the group’s chief executive since it was established.

Tooley’s management roles prior to the MBO had included managing director of Wyndeham Kestrel and managing director of Wyndeham Press Group’s Packaging Graphics and Visual Communications divisions.

As a result of Tooley’s departure, two directors at VCG Kestrel, the group’s Witham, Essex-based reprographics branch, which is where Tooley was based, have been promoted into new roles.

Former operations director Keith Parker has been appointed as branch managing director, while former technical director, Gary Curtis has been appointed as operations director. Both have started in their new roles with immediate effect.

“Mick had an overarching role in the group that is now being taken on by myself and the group’s other non-executive shareholders. But, individually, Keith is now managing director of Kestrel while the other group divisions are being run by other individual managing directors,” said VCG Group chairman Philip Long.

“I am delighted that Keith and Gary have accepted these appointments. Between them they have over 50 years’ experience in the industry and have both been instrumental in the success of VCG Kestrel and the VCG Group as a whole. I am confident that in their new roles they will continue to drive the business forward.”

Parker added: “I am very pleased to be appointed managing director of VCG Kestrel. This really has been a natural progression from my current role and will allow me to seize this highly exciting period of exceptional opportunity in our industry and for VCG Kestrel in particular.

“We are well placed to convert this opportunity into continued success by providing market leading support and service to our customers.”

VCG Group and its five specialist divisions – packaging graphics, large-format graphics, creative design, marketing and IT – provide brand and colour management services to companies in a range of industries. VCG Kestrel serves blue chip clients including Tesco, Marks & Spencer, Pepsi and Weight Watchers.
