The Variquik perished along with manufacturer Strachan Henshaw in 1999, but major client M&A Thomson Litho bought the intellectual property rights and Variquik name. Now M&A-owned Variquik International has teamed with Janus Technologies and Emerson & Renwick to make and market a new range.
M&A Thomson Litho managing director Ken Thomson said interest in the Variquik had remained high: "We are sure a new generation press will be well received and a great success".
The market in used Variquiks has remained buoyant, and the press enjoys a loyal user base.
Former Strachan Henshaw sales manager Peter Fiedor, who has been at Janus for around four years, is heading the sales push for the new model.
The new press, which will be wider than the old version and will use shaftless technology, will be promoted at Drupa. An unnamed customer has already placed an order.
