The kit, which features Gemini Instant Duplex technology, was classed as "one of the most groundbreaking technological advancements in the history of electrophotography" by the evaluation board.
The Bertl award is the latest accolade received by the Océ system, which has also won the 2007 InterTech Technology Award from US representative body PIA/GATF and was named European Digital Press 2007 Product of the Year.
Joseph Skrzypczak, president and chief executive of Océ North America, said it was an honour "to be recognized at such a level" and that "our customers continue to benefit from our industry leadership and this outstanding Bertl rating acknowledges their trust in our solutions".
The VarioPrint 6250 can print up to 250 A4 duplex pages per minute on a maximum sheet size of 320x488mm. It can handle stock weights between 50-300gsm and print at a resolution of up to 1,200x600dpi.
Prices for the Océ VarioPrint 6250 start at £250,000.
