UV B1 boost for Goodman adds print flexibility

Goodman Baylis has expanded its Heidelberg B1 firepower with a UV version of the Speedmaster CD 102-6LX.

The six-colour machine will be installed this month and will increase the 150-staff Worcester company's capacity for commercial work. Goodman Baylis chairman Clive Parkes said that using UV allowed the firm to "output work on unusual substrates including plastics and for giving brighter results, even on poorer substrates".

"We have chosen to have six colours because there is more demand for specials," he added. Sun Chemical UV inks will be used on press, while the InstantStart blanket wash system, which Heidelberg revealed at Drupa, is also featured. The machine replaces a five-colour Mitsubishi and will sit alongside SM102-6 and SM102-10P Speedmasters.
