UKPS invests in Autobond Mini for in-house laminating move

Print finisher UKPS has followed a move to a new facility by adding lamination to its growing list of services.

The Tyseley, Birmingham-based company has installed an Autobond Mini TH76, adding lamination to the die-cutting, creasing and spot varnish services it already offered.

The laminator can produce up to 6,000 B2 sheets an hour and can handle a large range of laminates including gloss, matt, silk and anti-scuff, while sheet sizes can range from SRA4 to B1.

UKPS manufactures a range of products including presentation wallets, covers, pockets, tent card sleeves and CD sleeves. Although the company was able to handle most of the production itself, it had not previously had the facility to take on laminating work.

Managing director Matthew Robins said: "We are able to offer the whole service under one roof, which enables us to be very competitive on price on the laminating, die-cutting and automated wallet make-up.

"Before we purchased the laminator, companies had to send the work elsewhere to be laminated then back to ourselves, but now we can take on the job from scratch.

"There are not many companies in the West Midlands that offer that kind of whole service under one roof, so it’s quite specialised."

Robins added that UKPS was taking in a lot more digital work for lamination, including labels, which "not many companies really like to take on".

Earlier this year, the company moved to a larger facility. However, it has remained within the Birmingham area.

Robins said: "When we moved, we decided to stay in central Birmingham as it offers easy access for clients in the area and close access to the motorways."
