The UK is lagging behind in the uptake of industry standards, particularly compared with European and Japanese competitors, according to QCI printing and pre-press consultant Bryan Sunderland.
Speaking at the last Digital Ad Lab (DAL) meeting, Sunderland gave an update on the issue of standards, along with a progress report on PDF-X.
A meeting is scheduled to take place at the PPA to debate PDF-X standards under development and determine how close they are to being taken up.
"Each one is at a different level of adoption, but there is still a definite need for implementation," said Sunderland.
He also said the pass4press digital advertising transfer standards should be compatible with PDF-X.
Pass4press is the PDF-based standard for digital ad submission launched by the PPA last November. Emap UK print buyer Andy Franks and IPCs pre-press development and quality control manager, Debbie Read, carried out trials and development.
At the meeting a printer panel discussed areas of change and what they considered the biggest threats.
