Toyo Ink sets its sights on Europe

Toyo Ink plans to increase its presence in Europe as it launches technology that redefines the traditional CMYK colour gamut.

The Japanese manufacturer, which celebrates its centenary next year, will make its European debut at Ipex and plans to expand sales and marketing activities in the region by building a network of specialist distributors.

Its Kaleido range uses innovative pigment technology to achieve a gamut of close to seven colours within a four-colour printing process.

According to the firm, the current CMYK colour gamut is narrower than the Adobe RGB colour space available in files and on pre-press monitors.

Toyo claims Kaleido widens the four-colour gamut by redefining the pigments "from scratch", so that the RGB colour range can be used to its full potential from screen to print.

Senior sales manager Peter Beerten said: "Most customers with a four-colour [system] want the largest possible colour gamut using the four colours available."

The soy-oil based ink can emulate "all and more" of the Pantone library and be applied to packaging, as well as commercial print.
