Top Ten of 2012: Nanography (3)

The show stealer at Drupa and an entirely new printing platform, Benny Landa's nanographic printing was, above all, an incredibly well executed marketing strategy.

Promising to revolutionise the industry from the rumours early in the year to the grand reveal at Drupa of what looked essentially like massive iPhones attached to paper rolls, Landa had manufacturers falling over themselves to sign up to partnerships, and printers crowding in to place positions of interest.

It stole the limelight so completely that it overshadowed other developments in B2 inkjet in the here and now such as Fujifilm's JetPress 720 installs and HP's Indigo 10000 launch, not to mention the Screen TruePress and MGI Meteor.

No doubt time and money will play a determining role in the commercial availability of the Nano presses (although things are apparently on schedule), but this will remain one of the most hotly followed developments.
