Thomson set to cut more staff

Thomson Litho is set to shed up to 80 jobs in yet another cull that could mean its workforce has shrunk by nearly a third in just over a year.

The latest cuts follow 72 losses in January at the East Kilbride plant and news of 40 planned redundancies from the 626 staff last July.

Managing director Kenneth Thomson was unavailable for comment.

GPMU assistant Scottish branch secretary Norman King said the redundancies were because of a downturn in work. The firm has been hit by Compaqs decision to switch computer production to the Czech Republic.
