Sdra Cell set to raise price of softwood pulp

Swedish pulp producer Sdra Cell has announced a $30 (17) per tonne price increase for its Northern Bleached Softwood Kraft (NSBK) pulp.

The price increase is effective from 1 June, but the company has not confirmed any plans to raise the price of its hardwood pulp.

Sdra Cell said it had decided to raise prices against a background of global improvement in the paper market, which had created more demand for pulp.

European pulp consumer figures for March showed improvements in both inventories and consumption, with the latter up by 85,000 tonnes or 7% on the levels for February.

An industry source said he thought it was still too early for any movement in paper prices, as some of the increases that had already been announced had failed to take hold.
