RRD extends its books wing by acquiring APG

RR Donnelley (RRD) has expanded its book business with an agreement to acquire Chinese firm Asia Printers Group from Asian Print Holdings.

"While our main goal is to expand our book business, the deal also adds China-based capabilities to our financial printing arm," said RRD chief executive Mark Angelson.

The firm specialises in casebound books, in particular children's illustrated books, serving publishers in the UK, Europe and North America under the South China Printing brand. It also has a financial print business, Roman Financial Press in Hong Kong.

The all-cash deal values the firm at 52m ($95m) and is expected to close this summer, subject to regulatory approval.

The move follows RRD's acquisition of UK-based business process outsourcing firm Astron in April.
