Royal Mail and TNT Post reported to shed jobs

Turmoil in the postal market was again underlined this week when two major players were linked with big redundancy plans.

Around 30% of jobs in Royal Mail’s letters division are reportedly under threat.

Although the firm refused to confirm the reports, any job cuts are likely to be due to increased automation and an overhaul of its business.

According to press reports, Royal Mail is currently in talks with unions over pay and restructuring.

In addition, Ian Griffiths, the head of Royal Mail’s letters division, walked out of his job last week. The firm declined to comment on reports that he quit due to a dispute over cost-cutting.

Meanwhile, TNT Post has announced that it will cut up to 7,000 jobs across Europe over the next three years in a bid to save over £200m. The firm is also set to freeze the wages of around 60,000 of its employees.
