Rainbow Print (Wales) brings laminating in-house with new B2 Foliant laminator

General commercial printer Rainbow Print (Wales) has invested in a B2-format Foliant Taurus laminator to enable it to bring lamination services in-house.

The Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales-based firm, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, decided to purchase the machine, which has been installed in the past few weeks, from Intelligent Finishing Systems (IFS) after first seeing it at Ipex.

Joint owner Darren Roberts said: “We were sending all our lamination out and getting a great service. But when we put a Linoprint C751 digital press in last summer the need to turn around short-run work faster became clear.

“We wanted to be able to capitalise on the business essence of digital print and sending work out impacted turnaround times and the cost of jobs. Now we can be more responsive and cost competitive for both digital and litho print.”

The business chose the device based on its ease of use, simple set-up and quality finish.

Roberts said: “We considered other systems and had a good look at a couple when we visited Ipex. We liked the fact the Foliant laminator has a feeding head and is very versatile. It also warms up very quickly and the need to print so many overs is reduced, which is a benefit to the company and our clients.

“The Taurus is so simple to use that we have a few members of staff trained to operate it so they can hop on and off as the work demands.”

Roberts said he has already noticed the machine’s impact on the business.

“We noticed an uplift within the first few weeks of it being installed. I expect productivity to increase significantly and it will also make us more versatile by offering a lamination service in-house.

“Clients more than ever demand quick turnaround, quality print and an exceptional service and we have already had more work placed by those looking for just that.”

Rainbow Print (Wales) is a Heidelberg house that runs two five-colour Speedmaster 74s, a two-colour PM46 and a Linoprint C751. The firm, which has 16 staff, serves local and national companies and public sector organisations and provides a trade service.
