Quinns expands with Isle of Man acquisition

Bradley Group, the owner of online trade printer Quinnstheprinters.com, has acquired Isle of Man-based commercial printer Mannin Group.

The deal for an undisclosed sum was completed at the end of January.

Mannin managing director Steve Brown, who is staying on, and Quinnstheprinters managing director Peter Bradley first discussed a possible deal around six months ago.

It comes at a time of growth for Quinnstheprinters, in which it is soon to open a new 2,460sqm Liverpool facility, where it will install a Drupa-purchased Heidelberg Speedmaster XL 106-8-P LE-UV press. The site is due to open in March and will initially house 30 staff, with this figure expected to rise to 50 after six months.

Bradley said the acquisition would mean Mannin, which has a number of clients in the financial sector, could take advantage of Quinnstheprinters’ Belfast and Liverpool sites to cross-sell to clients that have other branches across the UK. He said he plans more acquisitions under the Bradley Group banner in the near future.

“From Christmas it was a very quick process. We looked at some of the efficiencies we could bring in that they aren’t doing at the moment. It was a win-win situation where the business can go forward under Bradley Group as a whole, really," he said.

“They do wide-format and signage, which is something we don’t have, and that’s something we can have across the brands that will be a good export business for Mannin.

“For the group as a whole, it’s really more about what we can do for Mannin, improve profitability and improve the service we’re providing to the clients they have on the Isle of Man.”

29-staff Mannin has a turnover of £3m, bringing Bradley Group’s overall turnover above the £10m mark.

Brown said: "We're really excited to be part of Bradley Group and they come with a wealth of experience and knowledge of the industry. Peter and I have great plans to move the company forward.

"We're in the strongest possible position to service all of the Island's printing needs going forward."

Mannin installed a Heidelberg Speedmaster SX 74 with coater in 2014, its first new litho press for 35 years, which was purchased as part of an investment programme following an MBO led by Brown in December 2007. It has two in-house magazines, which it will continue to print.

Bradley, who hails from the Isle of Man himself, claimed the SX 74 to be the only Speedmaster currently operating on the island.

Bradley Group, which since the acquisition has around 90 staff, was formed late last year and is now comprised of Quinnstheprinters, Mannin Group and software development arm Quinnsdevelopment.

Quinnstheprinters recently signed up for PrintWeekLive!, which takes place on 8-9 March 2017 at the Wasps Arena, Coventry.
