In January, the Small Business Service (SBS) appointed BiP Solutions to develop the website. The service provider will continue to generate buyer and supplier interest for the next five years.
It is the first government-backed portal for publicising public sector contracts worth less than 100,000.
All public sector organisations will be able to publicise their contracts and businesses can register to access the contracts and receive email alerts.
The recommendation for Supply2.gov.uk was made in Government: Supporter and Customer?, which was published in 2003 by the Better Regulation Taskforce and Small Business Council.
Public sector contracts valued at more than 100,000 are required by law to be listed in the Official Journal of the European Union.
Suppliers may be charged an annual subscription fee for some services.
