Printbylaser in expansion mode

Washington printer Printbylaser is set to expand its workforce having moved to new premises and invested in new kit.

The company is set to recruit 12 employees over the year, adding to its 24-strong workforce.

Printbylaser moved to a new 1,550m2 factory in May last year and has just invested 750,000 in new kit and design facilities. The kit includes a second hand four-colour Heidelberg MO VP press and a Heidelberg Trendsetter with Delta workflow. The company is also to add a new Polar 92X to its operation.

We have bucked the industry trend to a certain degree, said Printbylaser sales director Chris Murley. I think printing is becoming more of a service industry and we have invested heavily in our MIS.

The company specialises in printing for the public sector with products ranging from appointment cards to brochures and magazines.

Murley said: We have maintained a close relationship with City of Sunderland Council for many years now and so wasted no time in turning to it for relocation guidance.

The council has provided continual support and sound advice throughout the expansion process and was instrumental in our application for a small business grant from the DTI.
