Print City wins 7.5m of work

Barnsley-based Print City has signed 7.5m three-year contract with stationery supplies firm Office Depot.

The sheetfed printer has also announced that a further 2m of business with unnamed international firms was confirmed in the past month.

Print City hopes to double turnover to 10m over the next two years, following growth from around 2.5m turnover two years ago.

Print City chairman Michael Brennan said that the contracts were "the highlights of an exciting two years for the business", which included a move to a 1.2m facility on the Zenith Business Park in Barnsley in 2003.

Following the contract win, Brennan said he is planning to install the UK's first new-generation Komori long perfector on the back of multi-million pound contract wins.

"Our success is based on the adoption of technology," Brennan said.

The perfector, which was launched at Drupa, could be installed by the end of the summer 2004.

Brennan said that he was currently "in discussions" with Komori over the press. "We're in the process of looking at it. If it goes ahead we expect the press to be installed in three months," he said.

The company is also planning to add an extra 20 staff to its existing workforce of 55 over the next month.
