Preview gets UK's first Compose Print Station

Creative design and digital print company Preview has become the first UK printer to take advantage of Compose System's Star Proof remote Print Station for contract proofing.

Compose System installed the remote systems at two of Preview's customers' sites, following an upgrade to the Stevenage-based printer's own Star Proof system.

Preview has upgraded to the latest version of Star Proof, which includes Compose's ICS software for Fogra proof verification, and installed an Epson 7880 colour printer profiled to its Screen TruePress 344.

Print Stations with Epson 4880 printers were then installed at Freemantle and Acorn Publishing. All colour management is controlled by Preview's Star Proof in Stevenage and a CM 1-Bitt Tiff is delivered to the remote sites for proofing.

Chris Coughlan, managing director at Preview, said he was impressed at the speed at which the proofs were delivered, with the first 300MB proof taking 12 minutes to compress to 60MB and transmit.

"The speed factor with the remote proofing was much better than anticipated," he said. "From our point of view, this system, married with our workflow, retains full project and brand quality, which is something our clients depend on us for."

Kevin Caughtry, UK sales manager at Compose System, added: "Previously it was difficult to send 1-Bit Tiffs, but this has changed as file compression improves and the internet gets quicker.

"We have seen interest from customers not just for remote proofing but to remote print sites for plate-making and the press run."
