Planet Media buy to double consumables turnover for printMAX

Reseller printMAX has said the completion of its acquisition of Planet Media's consumables division should help double the turnover of its own consumables arm.

The deal was finalised earlier this month, which adds "around 350 active customers" to printMAX's customer base, of which there is only a 20% overlap according to managing director Michael Bolton.

"It's already having a positive impact on our consumables business," he said. "It's adding about 70% to turnover [of the consumables division]."

He added that cross-selling new product lines to existing customers would take this to 100% in the near term.

He said that the deal "also gives us access to third-party solutions we can now supply which we couldn't historically". These include products from Sun Chemical and Kernow among others.

Planet Media will now concentrate on the DYSS flatbed product it imports from Korea. Nigel Reineck, Planet Media’s senior sales manager for its consumables division is also to move across printMAX.

"I am excited to be announcing what is a significant boost to printMAX's capability in terms of products and expertise in consumables. Planet Media has an excellent reputation in the industry and printMAX is very proud to be continuing this commitment to quality and service under the printMAX banner," said Bolton.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, but Bolton said that the company remained in a strong cash position to move on other potential targets should the opportunity arise.
