PG Paper supports growth strategy with top-level hires

Scottish paper merchant PG Paper has appointed its first managing director as well as a sales manager to support growth plans across its international markets.

Chris McKendrick, formerly chief executive of luxury beauty and home fragrance brand Arran Aromatics, joined PG as managing director last month while Jim McKenzie, most recently sales development director at Antalis, was taken on as sales manager at the end of May.

Both are newly created roles at the company, which was established by Poonam and Puneet Gupta in 2003 and now employs 26 staff at its UK headquarters in Greenock.

The pair will work alongside other members of the senior team to strengthen and develop internal processes and procedures, to futureproof the business and ensure it is ready for the next stage of its growth.

The firm’s turnover to 31 March 2019 is expected to be in excess of £50m, up from its previous year-end turnover of £36.2m, and it is next looking to increase its sales by another 25% and diversify its product range in all markets.

The business, which trades in 55 countries, has also recently established a New York office and will soon add locations in China, Turkey and Sweden.

Chief executive Puneet Gupta said: “Both Jim and Chris bring formidable experience and knowledge, which I am certain will support and develop PG Paper’s international presence across our key markets.”

The addition of McKendrick as managing director to drive the continued growth of the business will also enable Poonam and Puneet Gupta to further extend their business interests to healthcare, property and restaurant businesses, as well as continuing philanthropic commitments.

“The entrepreneurial spirit of PG has resulted in exponential growth for the business in recent years. I am looking forward to mapping out and delivering the next steps in the PG success story,” said McKendrick.

McKenzie added: “My sights will firmly be on developing our international sales team and working alongside the PG senior team to review existing processes and procedures.”
