Papyrus GB has launched its e-commerce trading service in the UK, Papyrus e-point, providing customers with a real-time online ordering service.
"Our system has the benefit of being right there and right now," said Papyrus Europe brand manager Martin Plantin.
"The bullshit phase is over: what the customer wants to see is substance, and they want something that is individually e-tailored to their needs."
Users of the 24/7 system will be able to see live stock levels at Papyrus and mills.
The UK site is planning to upgrade the system at least once a month. The first upgrade will add a track and trace facility and a product selection wizard, enabling the right product to be used for a job.
Further plans include an Ask Frank service, similar to the search engine Ask Jeeves, and MIS development for SMEs next year.
Last year the Papyrus Group launched the latest version of e-point in eight of its 14 European markets, resulting in more than 5,500 customers placing 82,000 orders online.
In Sweden, the online service now accounts for 30% of sales. Papyrus is aiming for 25% growth in purchases over the internet by 2003.
