Orphans Press cuts bottlenecks in bindery with Horizon Stitchliner

A printer initially set up to help a local orphanage has improved its competitive-ness thanks to a Horizon Stitchliner from Intelligent Finishing Systems.

Orphans Press in Leomin-ster, which was set up in 1873 to fund Leominster Orphans Homes and provide children with a route to trade, installed the machine to cut bottlenecks in its bindery.

Sales director Helen Bowden, who runs the company with her husband Andy Bowden, said: "Now we can be much more responsive – the previous machine was old and felt like it needed thousands of adjustments before it was OK to run.

"We can also combine a number of services now as the new machine can stitch and trim and do a number of things rather than just one."

The Bowdens took over the £1m turnover company from Helen Bowden’s aunt 13 years ago, and it has been in their family for almost 40 years.

Orphans Press continues to back its founder’s vision today, supporting the Kenyan orphanage trust, Sanata, which provides education and training for destitute children.
