Jumping out of a plane at 15,000 feet, the thirteen members of staff from across the three businesses will be raising money for Northern Ireland Hospice, a charity that went “above and beyond” for Haywood and his wife Catherine, who works as a finisher at Impro Printing.
Aaron Klewchuck, the firms’ managing director, told Printweek: “They gave Catherine and the family massive support, and went above and beyond what they were expected to do. They’re not government-backed or funded, they’re a charity and absolutely worth raising money for.”
Klewchuck, himself an avid skydiver with over 1,000 leaps of faith under his belt, had the idea of encouraging colleagues and people from across the Northern Irish and Irish print industry to join in a charity skydive.
“I’m trying to convince others in the industry to join us – whether it’s competitors, suppliers, or anybody else – and make it a bit of a family day on 11 July. We’ll do a barbecue and get a good fundraiser going,” he said, adding that the three businesses would close for the day to allow everyone the chance to attend.
For each of his 13 employees committed to skydive, Klewchuck added, the company would pay for the skydiving experience, a commitment of several hundred pounds each – meaning all money raised would go directly to charity.
The team skydive has already raised over £2,200 on its JustGiving page, after just two days.
To further drive donations, Klewchuck will be releasing a video series on social media talking to the – occasionally nervous – prospective skydivers, and each company will host individual fundraising days.
“You can sense their nerves, but it’s obviously for a good cause,” Klewchuck said, adding that skydiving was “relatively safe, statistically”.
“I’ll be jumping out with everybody – you name it, I’ve jumped off it, whether it’s a bridge, hot air balloon, helicopter or mountain.”
